What is the SparkLing Method?

Drawn from 30 years of I-LABS’ research, the six-point SparkLing Method was developed using discoveries in early language development that affect brain development, such as the importance of adult language input and engagement, conversational turn-taking, and the social environment.

SparkLing’s fun, interactive online training is designed for self-paced learning. Educators will walk away with the knowledge and skills to successfully apply SparkLing’s proven language learning method including the key ingredients of high-quality language instruction for young children.

SparkLing’s adaptable lesson plans and resource libraries make it easy for instructors to plan and adjust their classroom time throughout the week with fun and engaging activities to help them apply their new skills.

SparkLing’s suite of support tools offers ongoing learning opportunities and reminders for teachers as they become familiarized with the SparkLing Method in practice.

The skills developed in the training can easily be layered into existing routines throughout the day–enriching other scheduled activities, transitions, and play.

The SparkLing method is compatible with a wide variety of existing play-based learning models and curricula to meet different organizational approaches and settings.

Are there prerequisites to becoming a SparkLing certified instructor?

At a minimum, we recommend that someone looking to become a SparkLing certified instructor have the following:

  • Experience working with children (either 0-3 year olds, 3-5 year olds or both)
  • Proficiency and comfort in the chosen language(s)
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Strong commitment to providing all children an inclusive and equitable learning environment
